President Ezra Taft Benson: "I ask you earnestly, have you provided for your family a year's supply of food, clothing, and where possible, fuel? The revelation to produce and store food may be as essential to our temporal welfare today as boarding the ark was to the people in the days of Noah." General Conference October 1987.

Become mentally prepared.

You must mentally prepare for a day of want. Take responsibility for yourself and your family's needs. Decide to become as self-reliant as possible. When difficult times come will you be an asset or a liability to others around you?

Become spiritually prepared.

Do you and your family have a firm testimony of the gospel? Will your values and morals endure during difficult times? Have faith in the direction to store a one year supply of food.

Become physically prepared.

Live within your means. Satisfy all of your promised obligations. Reduce, reuse and repair everything you possibly can. Use your resources frugally and avoid wasting them. Plant a garden. Preserve your harvest. Store water. Put together a 72 hour kit. Store one year supply of food, clothing and if possible, fuel.
